2022 Local Heroes Rita and Jack Burke

In 2022, the LCCA board of directors awarded the local hero award to Rita and Jack Burke. Rita and Jack settled into Logan Circle in 2017 and quickly engaged with the neighborhood. After joining LCCA’s Beautification Committee, they soon became key to organizing quarterly clean-up days and judging LCCA’s annual garden contest and Logan Circle Main Streets’ holiday decorations contest, plus removing graffiti from Logan Circle Heritage Trail markers and the Let’s Paint the Streets utility boxes.


In 2021, LCCA selected Rita as chairwoman of LCCA’s Beautification Committee, and Jack jumped in to assist. Under their leadership, committee members became more engaged, and quarterly clean-up days became more regular and robust.


Rita and Jack recently moved out of the area to be closer to their children and grandchildren and will be missed. LCCA is grateful for Rita and Jack’s many acts of kindness, commitment to the community, and efforts to make Logan Circle even more beautiful.
